“If you knew anything about mother ship you would know better than to hurt my kits!!” she howled angrily.
She jumped up on the no-furs face and started for its eyes; it pushed her off and ran away covering its face.
Blood from the no-fur had stained the ground from where it was standing.
“That will teach you not to mess with my kits!”
She gasped.
“Are you alright Smokey? Did the no-fur hurt you?” Bell asked concerned. While Smokey answered her Pearl and Lucky went to Taz.
“Are you alright Taz?” Pearl said.
“Yeah. I think so. That no-fur was crazy! Well, they’re all crazy, but that one was….” He trailed off. “So, what happened to you and Pearl? Did the no-furs attack you?” Before Taz had time to answer, Bell said something,
“Thank the Sky Spirits you’re okay! What did you do to your selves?” Bell said.
“They can tell us when we get back to our barn. Wait, where is our barn?” Bell hadn’t noticed, but they were in the middle of nowhere.
“Oh, no!” Pearl mewed.
“We’ll never find our way back!” Taz said.
“Maybe not for you, but I think I can smell a bit of
home,” Bell mewed.
She followed the scent trail they had left, but it had started to rain and it had washed away some of the scent. She stopped in the middle of the trail when Lucky asked,
“Which way now?” They either had to go left or right. “Which way should we go? I hope we’re not lost. What will I say to the kits?” she thought.
“I think we should take a chance and go left. What do you know, we might find our way back to the barn,” Taz said. They started to head left although Bell thought she heard snarling, but maybe it was just her imagination. But as she drew nearer she heard it again: a snarl that sounded so evil it would tear her to shreds. She wanted to tell the others but she didn’t get the chance to.
At once a huge figure leapt on Taz, and Pearl tried to get it off of him. Pearl finally got it off of him and got to see what it was that had leapt onto Taz. The shadowy figure let out a gasp of horror. “Bell, is that you? Oh my gosh!” the figure said.
“You two know each other?”Lucky mewed.
“Yeah, we were littermates! Where have you been? Why did you leave?” it asked.
“I left because of the no-furs. If I hadn’t left sooner I would have had my kits and the no-furs would have taken them away like they did with the others. I couldn’t lose my kits,” Bell mewed quietly. “How are you doing these days, Quin?” Bell said.
“You two are littermates? Why did you jump on Taz, Quin?” Lucky asked.
Quin looked embarrassed.
“Sorry,” she mewed softly.
“Come on, if we’re not getting out of here, we might as well hunt,” Lucky said. Bell could smell mouse, squirrel, and something else she wasn’t quite familiar with. She was about to ask Lucky what it was when he her himself.
“What’s that smell?” asked Lucky.
“I don’t know, I was about to ask you myself! Maybe it’s… herbs?” she seemed to ask.
“No.”
“Benny?” Bell mewed.
